Sixth Sense and Magic

In David Abrams book he mentions the idea of how perception is malleable and how humans can be tricked into believing things that aren't actually true. The idea that our mind can be played to think that something has happened or is happening is astonishing, that something so complex can be tricked by simple motion and actions. People have discovered this idea of playing with the mind long ago but it is now a way people make a living. Magicians use this to their full advantage, they use tricks and sleight of hand to persuade and manipulate people into making them believe that they have magical powers. The way this connects to religion for me (not saying their isn't any form of higher being/God) is the idea that if we know that we can fool people into believing a ball disappeared why could some time long ago someone fooled others into believing that they could be the chosen one. The idea that people can be easily turned to make believe that something happened is amazing that we thinking we are the most intelligent creatures on the earth can be duped so easily. If some people were get together and form out away to gain a following (Ex Cults) why couldn't if it start thousands years ago with no real way of records that someone made it up to gain a following.

  1. I find magic very interesting and am lost at times watching some magicians perform their acts. I have seen some pretty crazy magic! Other senses definitely play a role in our perception of magic such as sights and sounds which are the two major ones I would say.
