Smells and Bells

Before this class, I never knew that we had a sixth sense. However, after discussing how our sixth sense is something like our gut feeling or intuition, I was reminded about past moments where my gut feeling saved me or proved me right. In Abram’s Spell of the Sensuous, what I found particularly interesting is how he talked about the unique nature of animals that we do not see as humans. He mentions that we view “nonhuman nature only as it has been circumscribed by our civilization and its technologies” and that we only see nature as a set of resources. I wonder what animal behavior is like, undisturbed, in their natural habitats. The Amazonian rainforest is a perfect example of something nature is hiding from modern civilization.  The Amazonian rainforest is still vastly unexplored. It’s suggested that there are still over 100 uncontacted tribes residing in the rainforest, and still an incredibly vast amount of biodiversity that lies undiscovered.  However, besides ex...
