Engaging with the World

In The Spell of the Sensuous written by David Abram, he spoke about being present to the sounds, sights, smells and textures in our everyday life. In other words, that people should engage more with the Earth. I agree with this. Yes, it's cold for a lot of the months that we're at Wheaton and no one wants to go outside much then, but when it does get warm outside it's nice to see everyone on the dimple. Whether they're taking a nap, sunbathing, studying, having a picnic with friends, reading or just sitting and doing nothing they're connecting with nature. Personally, I like the smell of the flowers around campus, the feeling of the wind blowing against my face, and the feeling of the warmth from the sun. That's when it's hot and sunny. When it's cold and snowy out, I like the feeling of the snow crunching under my shoes and the texture of the snow itself. However, what I don't like is the feeling of stepping on black ice.
