What Happens When

The play was not all that I expected it to be.  It began by showing two little girls playing on a swing and talking about life and where babies come from.  This was used as way to represent your youth and purity, to try and get you in the mindset of when things were so simple and you let your imagination define you.  Then it moved into a situation where a guy was with a girl trying to describe what they define there relationship as.  The guy is not too thrilled about labeling the relationship as something, while the girl is pressing him as to why it is a problem with him.  This portrays a classic example of what people in college go through today.  Guys don't want to be labeled with a girl, while girls don't understand why there can't be a label.

In addition to the play, at times there would be a break and they would put up a projection on one of the stage props showing a person from Wheaton.  The student would talk about an experience that they had in their life pertaining to either sex or a relationship.  They would speak for about 2-3 mins describing the scenario and then the play would begin again with the little girls talking and bringing you back to that childhood and purity.

  1. What were your thoughts on using two little girls playing to represent childhood and purity? Why do you think the directors thought this was a crucial aspect to have in the production? Do you think that childhood, and purity are things that can remain even if someone has been sexually assaulted?
