Visual depiction of whisky tastes in Edinburgh

At the Amber Restaurant at the Scotch Whisky Experience,  there was this great holographic poster depicting in visual form the different kinds of tastes and aromas used to describe whisky.  Inside the tasting glass,  shaped the way it is to enhance the aromatic experience.  Note the mineral,  floral,  fruit,  spice,  and herbal images.   See,  I'm thinking about class,  even while I'm away.  Anyway it illustrates the point that we need to move across sensory realms to find words for smells,  not to mention that having a language for tastes and smells is a crucial part of tasting rituals.  Indeed,  there is a whole ritual to whisky tastings here,  involving the special glasses,  mixing a little water before sipping,  smelling,  sipping slowly,  and sharing each of our whiskies with our table companions. The amounts are pretty small,  because a little taste and whiff of these goes a long way.  We also accompanied our drinks with a cheese plate of very aromatic and tasty Scottish cheeses.  Again,  small amounts of intensely flavored things + ritual+ritual talk = a "big"  experience.
