The Eye of the Beholder

People always say the eyes are the key to the soul, but I have always wondered, why?  At the beginning of the chapter Ackerman uses a quote, by John Ruskin, which says "The greatest thing a human soul ever does in this world is to see something.... To see clearly is poetry, prophecy, and religion, all in one." This quote stood out because I think it shows how everything we see contributes to how we are seen and how we see others. The way we can feel emotions just by looking at someone's face and the way we can asses situations just based on what we see and nothing else is so fascinating to me. But just like everything there is a downside to this. Reason being we can judge a whole person or situation based on how it looks, but the important thing to note is that not all is always seen so this can be dangerous when entering new spaces, I think its just something we all have to be aware of. Much like smell it is often hard to describe something to someone who has not seen that thing.  Another interesting point Ackerman brings up is when she says "Our language is steeped in visual imagery." This is so true because we are always using site to inform us abut decision and different ideas like I said above.
