Tarot Cards and the 6th Sense

Tarot Cards & the 6th Sense

By Ava Barry

Just a mere few minutes ago I had the lovely experience of getting a tarot card reading by one of my classmates. In this reading I had an overall question about my future and what path I should go down. The cards show that I must look internally for this answer, and I may have been relaying too much on paths other people want me to take. Many people dismiss tarot card readings due to the subjectivity and mystery behind it, yet I look at it as a much different way. This reading shined a fresh light on a question I had been thinking much about, and coincidentally had a conversation with someone about earlier that day. In that conversation that happened far before the card reading, the person told me I have to take an introspective look at what I want. The classmate reading my tarot cards did not know I had this conversation earlier that day, yet this is exactly what she said my card spread meant. Coincidence? I think not. Some may say so, but wheres the fun in that?

Later on, I will get into how tarot card reading can be seen as an extension of the 6th sense in use, but for right now I want to invite in any skeptics. Even if you do not believe there is meaning or something greater behind the cards, I would challenge you to see the benefits of tarot card readings. Only you know what you have been through, and what led you to the question you are asking the cards. By using the cards and the person interpreting them, you can take their fresh perspective (on a situation they may know nothing about) and look through that lens. A fresh perspective is always helpful, whether the cards are drawn completely by chance or not.

"To put it differently, we think, feel, and experience today according to the battles of yesterday, but had these battles come out differently, we would be thinking, feeling and experiencing quite differently now."

Jeffery Kripal, 224

Part of the 6th sense that Jeffery Kripal describes in his book Authors of the Impossible, is the collective mind. This is where there is a profound connection between you and someone else that causes some sort of physic ability. Have you ever though of calling a friend you haven't talked to in a while, and as you go to pick up the phone you get a call from them? Or when you spend enough time with someone you start finishing each others sentences or speaking the same words at the same time. This is what is known as the collective consciousness.

I would like to take this theory a step further and suggest that this collective consciousness is what happen during tarot readings. You start by shuffling the deck, intentionally thinking about your questions. You are connecting with the deck, allowing it (or the powers speaking through the deck) access to your mind. The the person interpreting the card asks to you choose X amount from the deck. You slowly graze your figures over the cards until one calls to you. You have connected. You feed this connection by choosing more that are calling to you. Through this collective consciousness, the deck called you to choose the cards that will show you what you need to hear.

It is through this 6th sense that you are connect on a psychic level with the cards or power behind the cards. Some may say tarot cards are all interpretation, and that may very well be true. Yet, are the people who say this those who reject what the cards tell them because they are not ready to listen? Wether or not you believe in the tarot readings or a 6th sense, try to go into things with an open mind, for there is always value to an experience such as card readings.
