Smells

The history of smell
File:Philippe Mercier - The Sense of Smell - Google Art Project.jpg
In the Jewish tradition there were specific in-scents used to create a specific atmosphere.
For example, to create a place that put rabbi's in God's presence.
Some spices were used to derive images in prophecy.
A profit would be able to come down and smell the truth.
Israel was represented as an orchid and God smelled it and decided not to flood it.
Say a blessing when you smell a good smell.
If you smell something coming from idolatrous worship then you can't bless it cause you are blessing something that is not God

Smell and Sex
Fragrance is talked about in the bible
Lover is called oil instead of name
The smell of oil makes the person think about there lover
It is easier to remember something that was stimulating through smell
Is that why we enjoy smells so much

Smells Make a Difference

When you smell someone that may not smell the way you perceive is normal people judge
Everyone smells differently
Some smells are terrible to some but wonderful to others
Can some scents have a different effect on one person than another?
Modern hygiene changed the perception of smell
You associate different smells with different places and if they are not in those environments than it doesn't seem right

  1. Why does every pleasure have to be turned into a contest - a "challenge"? Good example of the idea of too much of a good smell is not so good. Loved the image in GloZell's video of the "smoke cloud" of cinnamon.

  2. On the note of what I said before, although my grandmother seems to not notice the smells in her kitchen, she can still differentiate between the many different spices she uses in the kitchen. So based in our presentation in class I don't think she's losing her Mind
